This Sunday's Service: "Trinity Sunday"

Picture
The First Sunday after Pentecost is known as "Trinity Sunday," in which we celebrate the "three-in-one" aspect of God: Creator/Sustainer/Redeemer. At this Sunday's Video Worship service, Pastor Sal will be joined by several other UCC ministers who will share words and prayers with us. Message: Rev. John Dorhauer, UCC President. Music: Peter Black and Jeff Spangler.

Tune-in on Sunday at 10 AM via our Facebook page, YouTube channel, or here on our website.

Last Sunday's Service

In our lectionary reading for Pentecost Sunday, last week, we heard the story of how the Spirit of God set the hearts and minds of the first disciples on fire. This very same Spirit is alive today, but how do we kindle its spark within ourselves and fan its flames in one another? Tune in to last week's Pentecost service, when we celebrated the Holy Spirit, alive and aflame in our hearts.
Message: Pastor Sal. Music: Peter Black and Stan Greene.

Returning to In-Person Service, June 6

On Tuesday, our Church Council met to finalize plans for our return to in-person church services beginning June 6. Click on the video above to hear Pastor Sal share news of their decision. Also, Pastor Sal is fully vaccinated and has returned to in-person meetings in his office. Email Pastor Sal if you would like to schedule an appointment.

"Strengthen the Church" Offering

Picture
This Sunday, we will be taking a special collection for the UCC's "Strengthen the Church" fund. The funds raised will help support UCC leadership development, new churches, youth ministry, and innovation in existing congregations. Your generosity will plant new churches, awaken new ideas in existing churches, and develop the spiritual life in our youth and young adults. You can contribute to this fund via our online giving page, or you write a check made out to "Douglas UCC" and mail it to P. O. Box 519, Douglas, MI 49406. Be sure to write "STC" on the memo line. Thank you, as always, for your generous giving.

Zinnias Are Planted!!

Picture
KUDOS to church member, David Geen, for planting the zinnias in front of the church this year. They are planted in loving memory of Jim Shewell (1948-2021) who with his husband, Leith Letcher, planted the zinnias for many years in front of the church. David was assisted by Scotty Jacobs from Specialty Gardens. Thank you!! We can't wait to see the zinnias in bloom!!

An Evening with Dr. Bernie Siegel - June 16

Picture
Douglas UCC is honored and excited to announce that best-selling author, Dr. Bernie Siegel, will be joining us online via Zoom on Wednesday, June 16, at 7 PM, for an intimate and inspiring conversation based on his new book, "No Endings, Only Beginnings: A Doctor's Notes on Living, Loving, and Learning Who You Are." Please email us at welcome@douglasucc.org to receive the Zoom link for the event.

New Air Cleaning Filtration Installed in the Church

Good news for our return to church. With the help of generous church members, our new air filtration units from Surgically Clean Air have been installed in the Sanctuary, ready for in-person church services to begin. Along with new cleaning methods and safety-first service elements, our Church Council has worked hard to make services safer for our return. Click on the video above to learn more about how the new system works.

Friendship Hall News

Picture
We saw red (see photo) on Pentecost Sunday at the next-to-last Online Friendship Hall for Sunday coffee hour, and as usual, caught up with friends near and far.  We celebrated an amazing birthday for Rose Marie Stevenson's beautiful miracle horse, Kasie. And we wished Jack Ridl gentle healing when he gets his new knee on June 8, with good wishes and great advice from the New-Hinges Club at the church. It was good to see Mike VerMerris, and we beamed our love at him.  Much of the chat was about our return to church plans, what will remain from what we've gained through this pandemic (most especially our new church friends, far and near), and all that we miss that we will reclaim starting June 6 (see Pastor Sal's announcement, above). Of course once we return to in-person service, we can't have our online meetups with Pastor Sal on Sunday mornings, but we will look for another time to host chats with him. Stay tuned here for that announcement!

Birthdays & Anniversaries

Birthday and Anniversary cards are a great way we can continue to reach out to one another during this time. If you wish to mail a card to one of our church members, addresses can be found in our Church Directory. If you don't have a directory, please let us know, and we will email one to you.
