We were voted
“Best Place to Worship”

Picture
Douglas Congregational United Church of Christ was recently voted “Best Place to Worship” in the Holland Sentinel’s annual readers’ poll. Rev. Salvatore Sapienza, pastor of Douglas UCC, said, “I am delighted that this recognition will bring attention to the fact that there is a progressive and radically inclusive Christian church in West Michigan which welcomes and celebrates people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.” The membership at Douglas UCC has quadrupled in size since the church called Rev. Sapienza as pastor in 2014. There are over 5,000 UCC churches in the United States with more than a million members. The denomination places high emphasis on social justice, worldwide interfaith and ecumenical efforts, and has historically favored progressive views on social issues, such as civil, gay, and women's rights.
