From a young age, Reverend Jody Betten felt a profound calling to the pastorate — a calling she was told was not meant for girls. Undeterred by societal expectations, she embarked on a career in education, but the pull towards spiritual leadership persists.

Rev. Dan Plasman
PASTOR
Dan grew up in Holland, MI, and attended Calvin U. and New Brunswick Seminary. He served RCA congregations in New York and Illinois and, with Jody Betten, several UCC congregations as a co-interim minister. A writer, photographer, renovator, and world traveler, his work and play are guided by the eye of his heart.

Peter Black
PIANIST/DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Peter Black has been the pianist at our church since 2004. He officially joined our church in 2015 and became our Director of Music in August 2019. Peter performs in various venues in West Michigan; his church family knows how lucky we are to have him.

Jeff Spangler
CANTOR

Jeff Spangler has served Douglas UCC in so many roles over the years. He began attending DUCC in 2001, first singing in a small choir, then as a soloist, and as a cantor/soloist since 2004. He can be counted on each week to give everyone a meaningful worship experience through the power of music.

Claire Blumer
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Claire became our administrative assistant in September 2025. With years of experience in caring professions, she brings her big heart, strong organizational skills, and soulful presence to the life of our busy church office.

Laurie VanDenBeldt
HOUSEKEEPING MANAGER

Laurie is our woman of many hats. In addition to keeping the entire campus sparkling and welcoming, she ensures the whole worship and retreat experience is as welcoming and comfortable as possible.
