This Sunday's Service: "The BE - Attitudes"

Picture
In this Sunday's gospel reading, Jesus gives what's become known as the "Sermon on the Plain," a set of teachings which include four of the Beatitudes: blessed are the poor, the hungry, the sorrowful, and the persecuted. Richard Rohr says that the Beatitudes are the greatest wisdom teachings of Jesus.

Join us this Sunday at 10 AM (either in-person or streaming live online) as we explore these "attitudes" for how to "be."  Message: Pastor Sal. Music: Peter Black and Stan Greene.

Last Sunday's Service

In last Sunday's gospel reading, Jesus continues to call his first disciples, telling fishermen Simon and Andrew, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." What did Jesus mean by this? Is he really instructing us to go and 'catch' people for God? Maybe he had something much deeper in mind. Please enjoy last Sunday's service, when we explored the meaning of this "Surprising Catch" together. Message: Pastor Sal. Music: Peter Black and Jeff Spangler.

Morning and Afternoon Drivers Needed!

We are so excited to share that the young man we are sponsoring from Afghanistan has secured a good job at Haworth in Holland, just a 25-minute drive from Douglas. He will be working Monday thru Thursday from 6:30 AM to 5 PM beginning on February 21.

Until he learns how to drive and gets a driver's license, we will need volunteers to drive him to and from work. If you can help, please e-mail rkenny@schainbanks.com or sign the sheet in the Friendship Hall on Sunday. Thank you.

Meanwhile, your generosity has been most humbling and most welcome. Donations to the general fund supporting the family can be made online here, or send a check to Douglas UCC, PO Box 519, Douglas, MI 49406. Please write "Afghan Family" on the memo line!

Spring Street House Reminder

Picture
We have welcomed our Afghan Family to Spring Street, and we just wanted to remind everyone that the Spring Street house is now closed for meetings, events, and church storage. Our church property has been moved to other locations to make room for our guests. It's important that we give this family their privacy, and preserve, above all, their feeling of safety in this place.

If you wish to welcome them or provide for them, please first reach out to the Afghan Task Force to by emailing:
Barbara Witt (bjm2822@aol.com) or
Pat Denner
 (dendronus@yahoo.com).
