This Sunday: "Open & Affirming" Sunday
June is Gay Pride Month, and this Sunday, we celebrate "Open & Affirming" Sunday in the United Church of Christ. Douglas UCC is proud to be among the first churches to become recognized as an Open & Affirming church, affirming the full inclusion of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender persons (LGBT) in the church's life and ministry.
Pease join us this Sunday at 10 a.m., as we celebrate the spiritual gifts with which the LGBTQ community blesses our church family and our world. Message: Pastor Sal. Music: Peter Black and Jeff Spangler. The Sunday morning service will be recorded and posted later in the day to our church's YouTube channel. Last Week's Service
In the gospel reading from last Sunday's lectionary, the apostles are in a boat during a storm, and they are gripped with fear. Jesus calms the storm with the words, "Peace, be still."
Often, when we are in the storms of life and our world is being rocked, we, too, are overcome with fear. The Good News is that Jesus gives us the tools to transform our fear into faith. Please enjoy last Sunday's service, when we learned the path to "Fear-Less Living." Message: Pastor Sal. Music: Peter Black and Max Brown. The UCC's General Synod gathers July 11-18, online this year. All are welcome to attend. Our own Pastor Sal will be serving as a delegate this year.

At General Synod, the church gathers to discern the Spirit’s calling in this present day. General Synod 33 will begin on July 11, 2021, with opening worship and will continue through July 18, 2021. Although General Synod convenes to conduct the business of the Church, we approach this work in a spirit of worship. In that spirit, continuing throughout Synod, we invite the entire church to join us in prayer for our gathered time together.
Each day the Rev. Janet Ross, national setting chaplain, will provide a prayer request on the UCC.org homepage. We invite you to incorporate the prayer requests into your daily prayer practices or to pray daily for General Synod as the Spirit leads. We are praying for the manifestation of God’s presence and power among us as we attend to the work of the church. We are praying for restorative times of worship and witness. We pray that every attendee will find in our offerings loving affirmations of belonging. We pray for courage. We pray for joy. We pray for wisdom. We pray for our resolutions. We pray for love. We pray for smooth technology. We pray for patience and grace.
We simply ask that you pray for the church. Because of our faith, we know our prayers will reach God and the hearts of those who gather.
