In response to the grace of God through Jesus Christ, and with the power of the Holy Spirit, the mission of the Douglas Congregational United Church of Christ is the following:
To grow in faith and declare ourselves to be an Open and Affirming Church that promotes healing, peace and justice. We demonstrate this by: Growing in faith - Growing spiritually as individuals and members of the Body of Christ. Deepening our understanding of the Christian faith and our baptismal calling to be daily partners in ministry. Growing emotionally in our trust in God to bring about positive changes in ourselves and in the wider community. Being Open and Affirming - Simply welcoming and receiving All people as we would Christ. No Exceptions! Promote Healing - Healing each other physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Acting as a Whole Earth Church, demonstrating the sacredness of all creation by our interaction with the material world, earthly elements and resources. Working toward a consensus of belief and practice with other Christian traditions by including all believers in our weekly celebration of Holy Communion and by embracing the liturgical reform movement of the UCC and other partner denominations. Committing ourselves to the struggle for Peace and Justice - Promoting Peace and Justice through prayer, education, spiritual formation, political advocacy, and community witness. As a community of believers and with the Grace of God, we follow this mission in order to perpetuate Christ's ministry of love, healing, and forgiveness. Revised and Adopted 8 April 1999 A designated church member of the Center for Progressive Christianity. |
